With spring in the air, we know that leaving the house is less intimidating than it was mid-winter—hooray! Fortunately, now that warmer weather is on its way, there’s a lot to keep you busy in the Akron area. For instance, check out some exciting upcoming events that are scheduled at the Akron Art Museum. Whether you’re a budding Picasso or just someone with an interest in art, there’s something for everyone at the museum this spring:

FREE Thursdays

If you’ve never been to the museum, you’re missing out. Fortunately, you can visit the gallery for free between 11AM and 9PM on Thursdays year-round. Currently the exhibit, Invitation to Stare: Photographic Portraits, is on display and provides a great opportunity to check out the works of 26 photographers including Diane Arbus, Harry Callahan, Michael Disfarmer, and others.

Cleveland International Film Festival Day and Knight in Akron

Thursday, March 27th ALL DAY

For the second year running, Akron Art Museum will be presenting features and short films from the Cleveland International Film Festival. Movie lovers are sure to enjoy this eclectic collection of films. For a list of films and screening times, click here.

Art Talk: “The Battle We Didn’t Choose, My Wife’s Fight with Breast Cancer,” Angelo Merendino

Cleveland-based photographer Angelo Merendino has received international recognition for his photo-documentary, The Battle We Didn’t Choose—My Wife’s Fight with Breast Cancer. His moving photographs offer viewers a look inside the life of a young couple facing breast cancer together.

Tony Feher Opening Party

Friday, April 11th

This opening party offers an exciting kick-off to the museum’s upcoming exhibition of sculptor Tony Feher’s work. The exhibition (which will be held from April 12th – August 17th) will feature an in-depth exploration of Feher’s career. Feher uses everyday materials in his work—like plastic bags, cups, and packing materials—yet he arranges them in a visually stunning way, elevating the mundane into harmonious configurations.

19th Annual Auction

Saturday, June 14th

Mark your calendars for this sell-out event! This special evening features fine wine, great food, and an auction to benefit the Akron Art Museum. It starts with a cocktail hour and a silent auction to bid on items including wine, travel opportunities, art, and more. This is the Akron Art Museum’s event of the year.
