Frequently Asked Questions about Composite Fillings

We want to answer any and all questions about your procedure. Here are answers to a few questions we often receive from patients who need composite fillings.

How long will the procedure take?

Less than one hour. In most cases, composite fillings take less than 30 minutes.

Will it hurt to get my cavity filled?

We take every precaution to ensure you’re as comfortable as possible. We use the Solea Dental Laser, which means no painful shots and no uncomfortable numbing that lasts hours after the procedure. The Solea makes getting a filling quick, easy, and much more comfortable.

What happens if I don’t treat a cavity?

If gone untreated, a cavity can cause further damage to the tooth and its nerve. A weakened tooth is more likely to fracture—requiring extraction. An affected nerve usually requires a root canal.
